Metabolic health without borders: Bridging research and clinical practice through evidence-based medical communication
Joining organisations that promote lifestyle approaches for improving metabolic health strengthens the movement and gives others the opportunity to collaborate and support each other.
For health professionals for whom nutrition, metabolic health, or coaching skills did not form part of the original training, obtaining additional certifications can transform your patient care.
The Nutrition Network certification programme is highly recommended for practitioners wanting a certification in the field of therapeutic carbohydrate reduction. I completed the medical practitioner pathway in 2022. As an optometrist, obtaining this certification was an important step in broadening my scope and ability to help others through the implementation of TCR.
I have worked with the Nutrition Network on various projects, helping to make the research behind TCR more accessible to clinicians and patients alike. This includes the scientific reference resource, handouts, monthly research roundups, and focus articles.
The Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners (The SMHP™) was established out of a need to support clinicians, researchers, and other practitioners using nutritional and lifestyle interventions therapeutically to improve metabolic health. As a founding member, I followed the accreditation pathway to become a metabolic health practitioner. This accreditation supports my optometric background and expands the opportunities to help others in restoring and improving their health.
My interest in evidence-based medical communication supports my contribution to the SMHP Resources Committee.

Newly launched, they aim to make metabolic health the foundation of medicine.
It was an honour to be asked to join this coalition and be listed as an expert. The CMH works in metabolic health advocacy supported through policy, research, access initiatives, and medical education.
